The Mystery of History

II. Las Guerras de las Ideologías (1822 - 1877)
Conocido como la Era del Capitalismo
III.

- Malcolm Muggeridge
All Gone with the Wind: A Poignant Quote by Malcolm Muggeridge
“We look back upon history and what do we see? Empires rising and falling, revolutions and counter-revolutions, wealth accumulating and wealth dispersed, one nation dominant and then another. Shakespeare speaks of ‘the rise and fall of great ones that ebb and flow with the moon.’
“I look back on my own fellow countrymen ruling over a quarter of the world, the great majority of them convinced, in the words of what is still a favorite song, that, ‘God who’s made the mighty would make them mightier yet.’ I’ve heard a crazed, cracked Austrian announce to the world the establishment of a German Reich that would last a thousand years; an Italian clown announce that he would restart the calendar to begin his own ascension to power. I’ve heard a murderous Georgian brigand in the Kremlin acclaimed by the intellectual elite of the world as a wiser than Solomon, more humane than Marcus Aurelius, more enlightened than Ashoka. I’ve seen America wealthier and in terms of weaponry, more powerful than the rest of the world put together, so that had the American people desired, could have outdone an Alexander or a Julius Caesar in the range and scale of their conquests.”
“All in one lifetime. All in one lifetime. All gone with the wind. England part of a tiny island off the coast of Europe, threatened with dismemberment and even bankruptcy. Hitler and Mussolini dead, remembered only in infamy. Stalin a forbidden name in the regime he helped found and dominate for some three decades. America haunted by fears of running out of those precious fluids that keep her motorways roaring, and the smog settling, with troubled memories of a disastrous campaign in Vietnam, and the victories of the Don Quixotes of the media as they charged the windmills of Watergate.
“All in one lifetime, all gone. Gone with the wind.”
“Behind the debris of these self-styled, sullen supermen and imperial diplomatists, there stands the gigantic figure of one person, because of whom, by whom, in whom, and through whom alone mankind might still have hope. The person of Jesus Christ.”
-Malcolm Muggeridge

Mystery of History - Best Homeschool History Program 2012
"The Mystery of History is a curriculum unparalleled in its field. Created as a guide through the annals of time, The Mystery of History will lead all ages clearly through the labyrinth that many find this subject to be. Up until now, most world history and bible history have been separated. Linda Hobar has taken the initiative to tell the whole story in a way that few have before. With a classical approach, she weaves the story line together of both world and Bible history in Volume I. Subsequent volumes continue to weave the message of the Gospel through the ages. If history is taught in your home, The Mystery of History will unfold connections in history for you and your children like nothing else. If you study the Word of God, The Mystery of History will give you a solid chronological foundation to build on. There are no academic limitations to this syllabus. Designed to stand alone, each volume is as simple or as in depth as the individual or family wants it to be. This curriculum is the backbone from which any student can confidently grasp the mystery of history." - Anne L.

INTERVIEW WITH LINDA LACOUR HOBAR (Last Part)
9. What life lessons do you want students to learn from History? I think we can learn a lot from the character of others we study in history. We can see where even great men and women have faltered and avoid making their mistakes. We can be inspired by those who made a difference in history and had passion to create great change. I want students to be challenged, inspired, informed, and determined to make good decisions that could affect the next generation. More than that, I want students to see, believe, and understand that there is a purpose in life – which is to know God and make Him known. If we follow world history, we will get glimpses of our Creator.
When I consider all the people I have written about (approximately 400 biographies in 10 years) there is not one person who has changed this world like Jesus Christ. He was born of a virgin. He was without fault. He came with a purpose. He performed miracles. He had compassion on the poor, the lowly, the sinner, and the hurting. He died for the sins of mankind. He rose from the dead to conquer the curse of sin and death on mankind. There is simply no one who has done what He has done and there never will be. Jesus Christ was the perfect Son of God, the perfect sacrifice for mankind. And, He will return! We should all be ready and waiting – doing all that He would want of us, and telling others how to know Him. He is worthy of all the honor, the power, and the glory. Praise be to Him now and forevermore.

INTERVIEW WITH LINDA LACOUR HOBAR (Third Part)

6. How should we teach History? How can we make History interesting for the students?
I think that history should be taught chronologically. It makes the most sense to see the cause and effect from one generation to the next. Each era feeds the other. I prefer to teach students about people rather than about dates and events. People are far more interesting than treaties and wars and inventions. Of course, they are all related, but I like to teach using biographies first, the events second.
7. How is home school education? Why is it important?
Home education is a growing trend in the United States. As public classrooms have grown more secular, many families choose alternatives. Private schools are a good option but many find them too expensive. The home is an excellent place to learn in the loving context of the family. It does require diligence and self-initiative. These are great traits that must be developed to be a successful homeschooler.
8. What is your opinion about American Education? What should be changed about them?
American education is good and bad. There are still some excellent schools, but overall, the quality of education has declined in our nation as students struggle with authority, discipline, and maintaining a work ethic. Broken homes contribute to difficulties in school. I do not know how schools can improve the quality of life of students from difficult homes. I do think the schools could better apply discipline and expect hard work.
